PBS (Public Broadcasting System) Teacherline

Problem: Preparing to launch their new online courses for teacher professional development, PBS TeacherLine needed a partner to assist their PBS member station business partners in developing sales and marketing plans. Each station had unique requirements and market situation that had to fit into the TeacherLine framework -- all to comply with and to prepare the plans for review by a panel of an independent reviewers in order to receive grants from the Department of Education.

Solution: PBS hired Focus Marketing to help 13 member stations identify key segments, develop strategies, tactical plans and budgets. Focus Marketing consultants worked closely with the station managers and TeacherLine executives over the course of three months to transform vague national and local plans into concisely articulated business plans that would meet the requirements of an independent review panel. The result was approval of 90% of the business plans and the award of nearly $2 million in grants to implement online professional development for teachers.
